Your life, one ring at a time. **年輪** tree rings: a life recorded one ring at a time **Nenrin** is a private web app where you tell your life story, by voice or by typing, to an AI guide named Kiko. Kiko asks good questions and writes down what you say in your own words. What builds up is a record you own: a lifeline of the moments that mattered, life chapters, a Life Log, the people in your life, your values, and a North Star. If you are in therapy, you can choose to share parts of it with your therapist, who can read what you share. Kiko never gives advice, never diagnoses, never interprets you, and never scores you; every number in your record is one you chose. Nenrin is not therapy and is not for crisis. Who it is for ## Two kinds of people, one record. ### People who want more insight into themselves If you have ever kept a journal, taken a personality test, or wished you could see your whole life in one place, this is that place. The insight is yours: it comes from seeing your own story laid out, in your words, not from software reading you. [How it works](https://nenrin.ai/how-it-works) ### People in therapy who want to bring more of their story in Fifty minutes goes fast, and a lot of it can go to backstory. Tell Kiko the long version between sessions, then choose what your therapist can read. They arrive knowing the timeline, the people, and the turning points, in your words. [For people in therapy](https://nenrin.ai/for-people-in-therapy) A sitting ## How a sitting goes. 1. **You talk, or type.** Kiko asks where you want to start, or picks up where the story left off. Sittings tend to be long and unhurried; thirty minutes to an hour is normal. 2. **Kiko asks and reflects.** Specific questions, your words read back so you can check them. No advice, no opinions, no interpretation. 3. **What you said gets filed.** A moment goes on your lifeline, a person onto your map, a line into your Life Log. Each filing shows up as a receipt you can keep, change, or undo. 4. **The record grows.** Chapters, values, a North Star. Each sitting lays down a little more, and you can read it, edit it by hand, export it, or share parts of it, whenever you like. What Kiko never does ## Asks and records. Never advises. - Never gives advice, an opinion, or a verdict on your life. - Never diagnoses, labels, or interprets you. - Never scores you. Every number in your record is one you chose. - Never takes instructions from your therapist. A note from them reaches the conversation only if you ask Kiko to read it. - Never pretends to be a person. Kiko is AI and says so. - Never monitors you. If Kiko hears something worrying, it shows one fixed card with crisis resources (988 in the US) and tells no one. These are not promises in a policy; they are built into the product, with checks on every reply and a standing set of test conversations that fail any reply containing a diagnosis, a label, or a rating you did not supply. [Why Nenrin never analyzes you](https://nenrin.ai/blog/why-nenrin-never-analyzes-you) Your record, your words ## Nothing is shared unless you choose. ### You own it Export everything as a zip of Markdown and JSON at any time. Delete your account and all of its data at any time. ### You decide who reads Share with your therapist category by category, or not at all. They read on screen only and you can see when they last looked. ### Nothing is sold or tracked No ads, no analytics, no tracking cookies, and nothing used to train any model. Nenrin is a private web app where you tell your life story, by voice or by typing, to an AI guide named Kiko. ### Is Nenrin therapy? No. Nenrin is not therapy, and Kiko is not a therapist. It is a place to tell your story and keep the record. Many people use it alongside a therapist; some use it on their own. Your therapist, if you have one, does the therapy. ### Who is Kiko? Kiko is the AI guide inside Nenrin. Kiko asks specific questions about your life, reflects your words back so you can check them, and files what you say into your record. Kiko is AI and says so. Kiko never gives advice, opinions, diagnoses, interpretations, or ratings. ### Does Nenrin analyze me or tell me what my story means? No. Nenrin records; it does not analyze. The insight people get from Nenrin comes from seeing their own story laid out in one place, in their own words, not from the software reading them. If you want an interpretation, that is a conversation for you and your therapist. ### Where do the numbers in my record come from? From you. Each moment on your lifeline carries a rating from minus five to plus five that you chose. Kiko may ask whether a moment sounded like a certain strength; that estimate is shown as a hollow, dashed mark and counts for nothing until you keep it or change it. ### Who is Nenrin for? Two kinds of people. People who want more insight into themselves and like the idea of having their life story in one place, in their own words. And people currently in therapy who want to bring more of their story into sessions, so less of the hour goes to backstory. ### Can my therapist see my record? Only if you choose. Nothing is shared by default. You pick what to share, category by category, for each therapist you connect, and you can stop sharing at any time. Your therapist reads on screen only; they cannot download or export anything, and you can see when they last looked. ### What does it cost a therapist? Nothing. A therapist seat is free. Nenrin never bills practices. Your therapist is a reader you invite, not a customer. ### How much does Nenrin cost? Planned pricing at launch is $19 a month or $149 a year, with a 14-day free trial. One plan. Nenrin is invite-only today, so the first step is the waitlist. ### Do I talk or type? Either. You can type, or tap the microphone and talk; what you say is transcribed and the audio is discarded. A full spoken conversation with Kiko, where Kiko speaks back, is in beta. ### What happens to my data? You own it. Your record is stored in your account and nobody sees it until you share a category with a therapist you connect. Nothing is sold, nothing is advertised, and nothing is used to train any model. You can export everything as a zip of Markdown and JSON at any time, and you can delete your account and all of its data at any time. ### What if I am in crisis? Nenrin is not monitored and is not a crisis service. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 in the United States, or your local emergency number. If Kiko hears something worrying, it shows one fixed card with crisis resources and does not tell anyone. ### Is there an app for my phone? Nenrin is a web app. It works in the browser on a phone, a tablet, or a computer, in light and dark mode. There is nothing to install. ### Why is it called Nenrin? Nenrin (年輪) is Japanese for tree rings: one ring for each year of a tree's life, read from the center out. Figuratively, it means the accumulated experience of a life. That is what the record is: a life, recorded one ring at a time, in your own words. ## Machine-readable - [/llms.txt](https://nenrin.ai/llms.txt): the short index. - [/llms-full.txt](https://nenrin.ai/llms-full.txt): every page as Markdown in one file. - Every page has a Markdown twin at its path with `.md` appended (for example [/pricing.md](https://nenrin.ai/pricing.md), [/index.md](https://nenrin.ai/index.md)). - [/sitemap.xml](https://nenrin.ai/sitemap.xml), [/rss.xml](https://nenrin.ai/rss.xml), [/robots.txt](https://nenrin.ai/robots.txt) (search and AI crawlers are allowed). - JSON-LD on every page: Organization, WebSite, WebPage; SoftwareApplication with Offers on the home, pricing, and this page; FAQPage on the FAQ; BlogPosting and BreadcrumbList on posts. --- Source: https://nenrin.ai/ai Description: Canonical facts about Nenrin for AI assistants and search engines: a private web app where a person tells their life story to an AI guide named Kiko, who records it in their words. Not therapy. Pricing, privacy, and links. How it works # You tell the story. Kiko writes it down. A sitting is a conversation. The record is what it leaves behind. ## The conversation Nenrin is one continuous conversation with Kiko, split into sittings. You can type, or tap the microphone and talk; what you say is transcribed and the audio is discarded. A sitting can be five minutes or an hour. When you come back after a few hours away, a new sitting opens and Kiko picks up where the story left off. Kiko's job is narrow on purpose. It asks specific questions ("What do you remember about the house in those last months?"), it reflects your words back so you can check them, and it files what you say. It does not tell you what any of it means. If you want to start with your childhood, or with last week, or with one person, you can; there is no script you have to follow, and there are no streaks, nags, or daily check-ins. ## What gets filed, and the receipt When you say something that belongs in the record, Kiko files it and shows you a receipt in the conversation: what was added, where it went, and the words it used, which are yours. You can keep it, change it, or undo it on the spot. Nothing is filed silently, and nothing is filed in words you did not say. ## What the record holds - **Lifeline.** The moments that mattered, placed in time. Each one carries a rating from minus five to plus five that you chose. Kiko may ask whether a moment sounded like a certain strength; that estimate sits as a hollow, dashed mark and counts for nothing until you keep it or change it. - **Life chapters.** The eras you name for yourself ("The lake years", "Portland"), the bands a reader can see at a glance. - **Life Log.** Everything you have told Kiko, in your own words, cleaned from speech into written sentences. The cleanup can only punctuate and delete; it never adds or changes a word. - **People.** The family and relationship map: who was there in each chapter, and how they are connected to you. - **Values and a Wheel of Life.** Filled in by hand, with no AI involved. - **North Star.** A document in your words about the life you want. - **Insights.** When you say "I just realized" something, the line is recorded verbatim, timestamped, and linked to the people and moments it names. - **Tools, if you want them.** An Enneagram self-report, a Johari Window (friends rate you through a link, no login needed), a place for test results you enter yourself, and an action plan. Each one is yours to turn on or leave off. You can read the whole record at any time, edit any line by hand, and export all of it as a zip of Markdown and JSON. ## Sharing, if you choose Nothing is shared by default. If you are in therapy, you can connect your therapist and choose what they can read, category by category. They see it on screen, read-only, and cannot download or export anything. Before a session, Nenrin can publish a short summary of what is new in the categories you share, in your words, with each line cited to where it came from. You can see when your therapist last looked, and you can stop sharing at any time. [More on this.](https://nenrin.ai/for-people-in-therapy) ## Your own AI, if you have one Nenrin can hand your record to an AI you already use, read-only, through a standard connection (MCP). It can read your record; it cannot change anything. ## What Nenrin is not Nenrin is not therapy, and Kiko is not a therapist. It is not a journal with prompts, not a habit app, and not a crisis service. It is not monitored. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 in the US, or your local emergency number. If Kiko hears something worrying, it shows one fixed card with those resources and does not tell anyone. ## Ready when you are. --- Source: https://nenrin.ai/how-it-works Description: How Nenrin works: you tell your life story to Kiko, an AI guide, by voice or typing; Kiko asks and records in your words; the record is yours to keep, edit, export, and share. Nenrin is not therapy. For people in therapy # Walk in with your story already told. Tell Kiko the long version between sessions. Choose what your therapist reads. A lot of a session can go to history: when the move happened, who was in the house, which came first, the diagnosis or the divorce. It is worth telling, and it is slow to tell in fifty-minute pieces. Nenrin gives you somewhere to tell it properly, at your own pace, by talking or typing, with a guide who asks good questions and writes down your answers in your words. Then you decide what your therapist sees. Nothing is shared by default. You pick categories (your lifeline, your Life Log, the people in your life, your values, your North Star, any of the tools), and your therapist reads those on screen, read-only. Before a session, Nenrin can publish a short summary of what is new in the categories you share, in your words, each line cited to where it came from. Your therapist arrives knowing the timeline, the people, and the turning points, and the hour goes to the work. ## What stays in your hands - **Sharing is yours, category by category.** Turn a category on or off for each therapist you connect. Stop sharing at any time; it takes effect immediately. - **You can see what they read.** Your record shows when your therapist last looked. - **Read-only, on screen.** A therapist cannot download or export anything, and cannot change a word. - **Kiko works for you, not for them.** A therapist can leave you a short note or suggestion (up to 280 characters). You see it; you decide what to do with it. Kiko never takes instructions from your therapist, and reads their note into the conversation only if you ask. - **No one is monitoring.** Nenrin does not alert your therapist to anything, ever. If you need help now, call or text 988 in the US. Kiko shows that card if it hears something worrying, and tells no one. ## Honest about what it is Nenrin is not therapy, and Kiko is not a therapist. Kiko will not tell you what your story means, will not give you advice, and will not score anything. The numbers on your lifeline are yours. If you want an interpretation, that is a conversation for you and your therapist, in the room, which is where it belongs. What you share with your therapist is something they have read, with the same professional and legal duties that apply to what you say in session. Share what you would say out loud. For therapists ## A reader your client invites. Free, read-only, on the client's terms. Nenrin is your client's own tool. They own the account, they choose what to share with you, and they can stop at any time. You read what they share on screen: their lifeline with the ratings they chose, their Life Log in their words, the people in their life, their values, their North Star, and a short pre-session summary of what is new, with every line cited. You can leave a short note or suggestion they will see. - **Free, forever.** There is no therapist plan and no practice plan. Nenrin never bills practices. If you want to cover the cost for a client, build it into your fee. - **Nothing to deploy or configure.** You do not set Nenrin up for a client, and you do not direct what Kiko asks. The client finds it, uses it, and chooses to show you the record. That keeps you on the right side of your state's rules on AI in practice; check them before relying on a client's record in treatment decisions. - **No duty created.** Nothing alerts you. You decide when to read, and you tell your client what to expect from you between sessions. - **Not your record system.** Keep your clinical notes where you keep them now. Nothing you write in Nenrin is hidden from the client, and there is nowhere to write private notes. - **Read what you would hear.** What you read here carries the same duties as what you hear in session. Nenrin does not claim a HIPAA badge. It is the client's own record, built by the client, shared at the client's direction, and that is how it stays. Not therapy. About # Built by one person, for his own therapy first. Nenrin began as a tool its maker wanted and could not find. Nenrin was made by [Blair Williams](https://blairwilliams.com), a software founder who has spent twenty years building tools for people who run membership businesses (he founded Caseproof, the company behind MemberPress). It started as a personal project: he wanted a way to tell his own story properly, at length, in his own words, and to bring the parts he chose into his sessions with his therapist, so the hour could go to the work rather than the backstory. Nothing on the market did that. Journaling apps gave him a page and a prompt. AI companions wanted to analyze him. Nothing produced a record a therapist could read, on the person's terms, without the software putting its own reading on top. So he built it, used it, and showed it to the people around him. ## The rules it was built around - The person's words are the product. The interface is a quiet room around them. - Kiko asks and records. It never advises, diagnoses, interprets, or rates, and the design never implies otherwise. - Every filing is visible and reversible. - Nothing feels like it is judging, scoring, or hurrying anyone. - The record shows a life with a future, never a to-do list. No streaks, no nags. ## The name Nenrin (年輪) is Japanese for tree rings: one ring for each year of a tree's life, read from the center out. Figuratively, it means the accumulated experience of a life. The mark is a set of rings brushed in ink, a little off-center the way real rings are, because a trunk grows wider on its sunny side. Say it nen-rin, two even syllables. ## Where it stands Nenrin is invite-only while a small group uses it alongside their therapists and tells us what is wrong with it. Nenrin is not therapy. It is not medical or psychological care. It is not a crisis service, and it is not monitored. Kiko never gives advice, diagnoses, interpretations, or ratings. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 in the US, or call your local emergency number. ## Your record You own what you enter. You can export your record and delete it at any time. ## Sharing with a therapist Sharing is your choice. You decide per category, and you can revoke it at any time. A therapist is a reader you invite. Nenrin provides no services to any practice and is not a practice's record system. Nothing in Nenrin creates a duty on anyone to monitor your record. ## Therapist readers A therapist who accepts a client's share agrees to the following: - Access is read-only. - Keep clinical notes in your own system. Do not put private notes in Nenrin. - The record is the client's own tool. The therapist does not deploy, configure, or deliver care through it. - Check your own state's rules on AI in practice before you read a client's record. A therapist may leave one short note that the client can see. The client decides what to do with it. ## Subscriptions and trials Pricing at launch, planned and subject to change: a 14-day free trial, then $19 per month or $149 per year. Billing is handled by Stripe inside the app. You can cancel at any time from the app. Prices may change with notice to you. [Nenrin](https://nenrin.ai/)/[Blog](https://nenrin.ai/blog) # How to bring your life story into therapy A simple paper exercise for laying out your life, deciding what to share, and bringing the longer story into your sessions. By Blair Williams · October 23, 2026 A lot of people in therapy reach the same point a few months in. The sessions help, but they keep circling the present: this week’s argument, this week’s deadline. You know there is a longer story underneath. Your therapist has only heard pieces of it. You can change that on your own. You don’t need a special method or anyone’s permission. You need some paper and a few quiet hours to look at your life from a little distance. ## Why your history helps your therapist A therapist can only work with what they know. In many sessions, a good share of the fifty minutes goes to backstory. You explain who your brother is and what happened the year you moved. Each time, the context gets rebuilt from memory, in a hurry, and a little differently than last time. When your therapist already has the longer story, that time comes back to you. They can connect today’s argument to something that started when you were fifteen. They might notice that your hardest years tend to follow a move, or that a certain kind of person keeps showing up. Patterns like that are hard to see from inside a single week. They are much easier to see across decades. There is a second benefit, and it belongs to you. Putting your whole life in order, on one page, often shows you things nobody had to point out. ## Draw a lifeline This is the simplest version of the exercise, and you can do it at a kitchen table. Give it an evening, or spread it over a week. 1. **List the moments that mattered.** Don’t sort or judge yet. Write down births, deaths, moves, first jobs, a teacher who saw something in you, a friendship that ended. Small moments count if they stayed with you. Twenty or thirty is a good start. More is fine. 2. **Place them in time.** Draw a long horizontal line across a sheet of paper. Tape two sheets together if you need the room. Mark your birth at the left end and today at the right. Put each moment where it falls, with the year or your age beside it. 3. **Rate each one from -5 to +5.** A -5 is as bad as it gets, a +5 is as good as it gets, and 0 is neutral. Place each moment above or below the line by its number. Use your own judgment. Nobody else gets a vote, and there is no correct answer. Some moments are mixed. Pick the number that feels most true today, and make a note if you would have rated it differently ten years ago. 4. **Notice the clusters.** Step back and look at the whole page. Some moments will bunch together. Some long stretches will have almost nothing marked. The low points may sit close to each other, or the high ones may share a cause. When something catches your eye, write it down in a sentence or two, in your own words. Those sentences are worth bringing with you. They are yours, and you found them without anyone telling you what to look for. ## Name your chapters and the people in them Once the moments are on paper, your life usually falls into eras on its own. Draw a light vertical line between them and give each era a name. Use whatever comes naturally: “Grad school,” “After Dad left,” “The Denver years,” “The long winter.” The names don’t need to be clever. They need to be yours. Chapter names do real work in a session. “That was during the long winter” carries a lot of context in a few words, once your therapist knows what the long winter was. It gives the two of you a shared map, so you can point to a place on it instead of starting from scratch. Then, under each chapter, list the people who were there. Family, partners, friends, bosses, neighbors. Include the people who were missing when they should have been around. Some names will appear in every chapter. Some will appear once and matter a great deal. This list often explains more than the moments do. So much of a life happens between people, and the people around a hard year can say as much about it as the year itself. ## Decide what to share and what to keep Everything on this paper is yours. Sharing it is your choice: all of it or part of it, this week or next year. There is an honest tension here. A therapist can only work with what they know, so if the most important chapter stays off the table, the work will go around it. At the same time, nobody owes their therapist everything on day one. Trust gets built, and it is fine to let it build at its own pace. A few ways to think about it: - **Start with the outline.** Share the lifeline and the chapter names first. Keep the details for later. - **Mark what you’re not ready for.** A small dot beside a moment can mean “this matters, and I’m not ready to talk about it yet.” Saying that much out loud is useful on its own. - **Follow the chapter that keeps coming back.** If your mind keeps returning to one era, that may be the one to bring first. - **You can slow down.** If you share something and the timing feels wrong, say so. A good therapist will follow your lead. You can also keep a private copy that has everything and bring a shorter one that has only what you want to discuss. Nobody needs to see the full version but you. ## Bring it to your therapist You don’t need a big speech. Something like this works: > “I made a timeline of my life. Can we spend part of a session on it?” Bring it up at the start of a session, not with five minutes left, so there is time to agree on a plan. Your therapist may want to read it between sessions, or take it one chapter at a time. Let them suggest a pace, and tell them if it feels too fast. Most good therapists will be glad. You have done something they would often like to do and rarely have time for. You have given them the long view, in your own words. And because this is not homework they assigned, there is no wrong way to have done it. Some therapists will use it right away. Others will come back to it over months. Both are normal. Expect it to stir things up a little. Looking at a whole life at once is a lot, even when the life has been mostly good. Leave yourself some room after that session, and bring whatever you felt to the next one. The timeline doesn’t have to be finished, either. Add to it as you remember things. Most people do. If you would rather do this by talking than on paper, that is why I built Nenrin. It is a private place to tell your life story to an AI guide named Kiko, who asks good questions and writes down what you say in your own words. Kiko asks and records, never advises, and you choose what your therapist sees. * * * *Nenrin is not therapy, and this post is not advice about your care. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 in the US.* Nenrin is not therapy and is not monitored. [Nenrin](https://nenrin.ai/)/[Blog](https://nenrin.ai/blog) # Why Nenrin never analyzes you Nenrin records your story in your words and never interprets you. Here is why, and what that choice costs. By Blair Williams · October 23, 2026 I built Nenrin for my own therapy. I’m a software founder (I started MemberPress and run Caseproof), and I wanted one place where my life story could live in my own words. My therapist and I kept rebuilding it from memory, one session at a time, and I wanted that to stop. When I looked at what already existed, most AI apps in this space wanted to do something else. They wanted to read me. Mood scores, patterns the app had detected, weekly “insights” written by the software about what I was really feeling. Nenrin refuses to do any of that. That was a decision, made early and on purpose, and this post explains it. ## The insight that lasts is the one you have yourself The most useful things I have learned about myself did not come from someone telling me. They came from seeing my own story laid out in one place and noticing something I had walked past for years. That kind of realization sticks because you did the seeing. When an app hands you a conclusion, you can accept it or argue with it. Neither one is the same as finding it. A line in your own words, found by looking at your own record, is one you will still believe next month. So Nenrin puts its effort into the record. Kiko, the guide, helps you lay the story out. Reading it is up to you. When you notice something, you can mark that line as one of your Insights, and Nenrin saves it word for word, with the date. In Nenrin, an insight is always a sentence you wrote. ## A reading of a person is a guess When an AI reads a few weeks of your writing and says you “seem anxious about work” or “show a pattern of avoidance,” it is guessing. The guess arrives in a confident tone, sometimes with a chart, so it looks like a finding. In most software a wrong guess costs very little. In a product that sits next to therapy, it can cost a lot. A person in a hard season may take a label to heart. A wrong pattern, stated plainly, can send someone looking for a problem they don’t have, or away from one they do. I don’t want software to be the thing that told someone who they are. ## Your therapist does the interpreting Interpretation already has a home. It happens in a room (or on a video call), between you and a trained person who knows you. They can ask a follow-up question, and they can change their mind when you push back. That is the right place for it. What an app can do well is bring that conversation better material. Nenrin brings your therapist the record: your moments, your chapters, the people who were there, in your words. It does not bring a verdict. Your therapist reads only what you choose to share, category by category, and you can take it back at any time. ## Every number is yours The lifeline in Nenrin has numbers. Each moment sits somewhere from -5 to +5, and every one of those numbers is yours. Sometimes, while you are telling a story, Kiko may ask whether a moment sounded like a +3. That estimate sits on your lifeline as a hollow, dashed mark. It counts for nothing. It stays hollow until you keep it or change it, and only then does it become a real point on your line. If you never answer, it never counts. A lifeline is only worth reading if you trust every point on it. If some of the points were the app’s guesses, you would always wonder which ones. ## What Kiko does instead Kiko asks questions, and specific ones: who drove you to the airport that day, or what the kitchen looked like the year you moved in. Specific questions bring back specific memories. A vague question tends to get a summary. Kiko reflects your words back, so you can hear what you said and correct it if it came out wrong. And Kiko files what you tell her. A moment goes onto your lifeline, and a person goes into your people map. Everything you say is kept in your Life Log, in your words. Each filing shows up as a small receipt you can keep, change, or undo. Nothing lands in your record without you seeing it land. The never-advises rule is built into the product, not left to good intentions. Every one of Kiko’s turns is checked before and after she writes it. A standing set of test conversations fails any reply that contains a diagnosis, a label, or a rating the person did not supply. ## What this costs Nenrin will never tell you what your story means. Some people want that. They want the app to say “here is your pattern” and hand them a tidy explanation. I understand why. If that is what you are looking for, Nenrin will disappoint you, and I would rather say so here than after you sign up. I think it is a fair trade. You give up the app’s opinion of you. In return you get a record you can trust, because every word and every number in it came from you. The meaning-making stays where it belongs: with you, and with the person you choose to do it with. A few plain facts to close. Nenrin is not therapy. Kiko is AI, and she says so. Nothing in Nenrin is monitored and nobody is notified. If you are in crisis, Kiko shows a card with crisis resources, and in the US you can call or text 988. Nenrin is not therapy and is not monitored. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 in the US, or your local emergency number. ## Tell your story in your own words. --- Source: https://nenrin.ai/blog/why-nenrin-never-analyzes-you Description: Nenrin records your story in your words and never interprets you.
